Approximately $45K of upgrades:
I purchased Unit 209 directly from the building’s developer mid-way through its construction in 2018. My kids and I sought an easier and more peaceful existence after condo-living in SF (SOMA) for the 14 years prior, yet we were not ready to completely give up our walkable lifestyle. Downtown Lafayette seemed like the perfect place to
achieve that balance, and Unit 209 in particular, proved to be the perfect soft landing upon our move from the City. The condo’s location and building have indeed provided my kids and me the ultimate hybrid of urban and suburban living for the past four years.
The building’s location is a dream for any BART commuter, and if you have kids, their schools (Lafayette Elementary and Stanley Middle School) are a 5-minute car ride, or 10-minute walk (via various kid-friendly routes). We have Walgreens next door (which has truly helped us during emergencies), four grocery stores, and the City’s best
restaurants directly in front of the building or just a few blocks away.
1000 Dewing Avenue is virtually walkable to every place and service most folks of all ages would need. I enjoy a cocktail at Barranco or grab a coffee at Philz across the street, while Zuni’s, Susie Cakes, and Learning Express have become my kids’ favorite haunts. Our family dentist, orthodontist, and optometrist, are also within walking distance. If I need to mail a package, the Post Office is across the street. I walk to the Lafayette Reservoir which is only a ½ mile from 1000 Dewing Avenue, the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, and the bike trail. The building provides a bike storage room and the adjacent Lower BART parking lot (which has remained largely empty since the Pandemic and on weekends) is surprisingly perfect for jogging quick laps, scootering, and bicycle rounds (for kids and adults) when one may not want to head to a bike trail.
We enjoy a front-row seat at the Lafayette Art and Wine Festival!
1000 Dewing Avenue’s generous set-backs from Mt. Diablo Blvd. via the restaurant row to the south, quiet yet vast Lower BART Parking Lot to the north, BART pathway and creek to the east, and retail lot to the west give the building a unique advantage of not abutting a main road or building of any sort. Therefore, another building could not be
built that could block the views of, or add noise hinderances to, any of the 69 condos in the development, and while the building is located in the heart of the City’s Downtown, it is buffered on all four sides with ample breathing room.
In addition to 1000 Dewing Avenue and its general location, I have also fallen in love with Unit 209 itself. I will genuinely miss the condo’s unique tree view from every window. As a second-floor condo, Unit 209 uniquely faces the middle section of the gigantic trees that surround the building and creek, making the unit feel like an elevated tree house home. I will miss the quiet and peaceful calmness of Unit 209 as it is quaintly tucked away in one far corner of the building. I will also miss the friends we’ve made in the building. The community of residents at 1000 Dewing consist of kind-hearted individuals, most of whom are family-oriented professionals.
I will miss the condo’s cozy yet spacious and smartly proportional floor plan, the brand new and modern finishes, and the TLC we added to it with numerous upgrades. My kids and I have never had pets, worn shoes in our home, I don’t smoke, and we have maintained our condo and all of its appliances with the utmost care, attention, and love. I sincerely wish the next residents of Unit 209 all of the happiness and unique opportunities that this home has bestowed upon my sons and me.
Low on density and high on greenery, Lafayette offers rolling hillsides, excellent schools, and an easy commute to Oakland and San Francisco thanks to the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station in the town center.
The Happy Valley area features meandering country roads and showplace estate homes perched on large hillside parcels that offer panoramic views of the valley. Mediterranean, English, and French Country architecture populate the landscaped neighborhoods.
Lafayette’s central business district offers quality shopping and dining for locals and visitors alike. Restaurants such as Artisan Bistro, Chevalier, and Metro Lafayette are thriving. For those seeking old-fashioned comfort food, Millie’s Kitchen is a popular breakfast and brunch restaurant with large portions and modest prices.
Lafayette Reservoir is open year-round for boating, fishing, picnicking, and hiking. After a long day on the water, locals head to The Roundup Saloon, a throwback to the days of rowdy roadhouses.
